UPDATE: In less than 24 hours, we've raised $600!

Wow. Just wow.

I was sure the reaction to this page would be positive, but I wasn't prepared for how quickly, and generously, people responded. I thought I'd be lucky to get $500 by Christmas, but we beat that already. And it hasn't even been 24 hours yet.

Tanner's already received the good news. I'll get him an iPod Touch, a decent case for it, and some iTunes gift cards for apps and new music.

I'm going to leave the donation form open for now, for anyone who feels like they still want to help out. I'll make sure Tanner gets it in the form of iTunes cards, accessories, or possibly a subscription to a service such as Rdio.

Thank you to all of you who donated your money, and all of you who tweeted and emailed the link to friends, this never could have happened with you.

Help me replace Tanner's stolen iPod for Christmas

"I'm Tanner. 14 years old. Gay. Just Dance."

Tanner Moskuil is a 14 year old student from Gatineau. And he's gay.

Tanner was recently the victim of an anti-gay Facebook hate campaign launched by a few classmates. The campaign quickly spread to Twitter, and his Tumblr blog, Make Me Feel Broken, where one anonymous bully wrote "i think i wanna kill you right about now".

Tanner's response, "me too".

It didn't take much to see the parallels between Tanner's plight, and the recent teen suicides in the National Capital Region, and soon a virtual army of supporters sprung forth into action to send Tanner messages of support and to let him know they cared, and were there for him.

The tone on Tanner's blog has improved significantly as a result, and while there are still a number of amazingly insensitive people saying some pretty nasty stuff, they are outnumbered by those offering words of courage and support.

In the midst of all this activity, Tanner had his iPod stolen at school. I'd read about it the day I started following him on Twitter, but had forgotten about it until I saw a tweet from him on December 12th that read "life without my ipod , suckss".

With less than two weeks before Christmas, I'd love nothing more than to replace Tanner's stolen iPod, so I've created this page to get the word out. I'm also hoping the some of you might consider helping out with this by spreading the word and possibly making a small donation "iPod For Tanner" fund. Anything you can give will help.

You see that donate button over there to the left, below Tanner's image. Click it to donate, and help make Tanner's life suck a little less. It's a small gesture, but I know it'll mean a lot to Tanner

Thank You

J.

This page was created by me, Jamie Calder. I can assure that it is completely on the up and up, and I asked Tanner for his permission to do this before I started it. If you have any questions, please feel free to get in touch with me via twitter. I'm @jamiecalder. Come say hi.
